I've lived in the southern portion of New Mexico almost all my life, so
moving to El Paso wasn't to be so different...I thought. El Paso doesn't
have much to offer in the view, it's mostly concrete everywhere which only
adds to the heat filled summer, spring, and fall season. Snow is a rarity
and humidity as well. Dry and arid desert country describes El Paso.
I never knew I had allergies, never knew how much pollution Juarez Mexico
can create, never knew how much of that pollution can blow into El Paso,
never knew that you have to speak Spanish in order to get a job, and never
knew that property taxes have a tendency to skyrocket at least every
two-three years. However, the fort is building an array of new housing.
Thank god, because the housing they had before is being torn down for
various reasons. Asbestos is one reason, poor plumbing, heating and cooling
systems are another. If you come here, make sure you ask for refrigerated
air, not swamp cooling. Schools are always overcrowded due to the enormous
amount of "dare I say" illegal immigrants falsifying their nationality and
addresses to get their children into American schools thereby leaving our
children to undertake the burden of learning lower level courses when they
are way beyond them. The Texans have a Test of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS)
teaching program for all the school systems. All children are subjected to
learning only the necessary concepts to pass all the subjects in this TAKS.
It makes the Texas School Systems look good on paper if all the schools are
passing.
