Traffic!

Lackland AFB

As far as Lackland AFB goes, I don't live on base, so I can't tell you much about the housing. The commissary is decent, but can get crowded if you don't make it over their before 1000. They just remodeled it, but I haven't been in since. There is a decent park behind the commissary that has tons of playscapes. The area of San Antonio is terrible. I personally don't like it here. All I heard when being transferred here is how wonderful and beautiful it is. Well, aside from the River Walk and the Alamo, its not that great! Traffic here is a nightmare! Bandera Road, 1604, I-10, all the highways and bi-ways are terrible depending on what time you leave and the direction you go. I guess it's like that in a lot of places, but I don't enjoy it anyhow. I guess we like the small town feel and this is certainly not it. If you like the city and the hustle and bustle, then this is it for you. As far as housing goes, it's very cheap to buy and/or rent. There are alot of new houses being built, but they don't build up the roads to accomodate for the subdivisions they are creating. That adds to the traffic on the smaller, back roads. Our house is 2521 sq.ft and its going for $154,950, which I think is a hell of a steal! That's $61 sq.ft. Stay on the NW/N side of 1604 when looking to rent or buy. NISD is a very good school district to have your kids in. My daughter goes to Scobee Elementry which is an Exemplary campus. I love my neighborhood. Tree lined roads and quiet.
