I just left Fort Irwin,CA it was the worst base you could go to unless you are a home body or have lots of money and love to drive. You are in the middle of no where and all you see is sand everywhere. The base is so small you can walk everywhere (dr.'s, commissary, px,you name it) I know I did :) If you have kids the only good thing is they have a couple of pools and 1 covered park other then that nothing unless you want to drive anywhere from 45min. to 3hrs depending on traffic. If you have kids I hope you like them in the house it gets in the high 100's My family loved the weather always outside but you are going to be the only one just outside and not at the pool or off the base. Trying to get a job on the base is a joke too you can get one but if you have kids and are not of higher ranking why work you will be working for daycare. If you want to stay sane stay away from Fort Irwin!!!!!!!!!!!!
