Fort Wood

Fort Leonard Wood

I have read others reviews and I have to agree with what they have said. This is a great place for someone who wants to raise children. There is a very good school system including technical school. There are some colleges on post that you can take classes at and finish degrees. If you love the outdoors this place is for you! There is plenty of hunting and fishing areas. There are multiple walking trails too. There really isnt much to do if you are not the outdoor type. There is a bowling alley, but it is over run with soliders in training that it isnt a very inviting area. Also if you are into the big city rush and a mall you are going to have to drive. The housing here is really bad. They have built new housing and there is a waitlist. The wait I hear is not too long, but all of the housing is 3 bedroom so you must have children, or be ranked so as to get in. My biggest complaint would have to be the medical care here on post. It will take at least 3 weeks to get an appointment, and if you are sick and need to be seen right away dont plan on it. The ER is run down, and it will take at least 5 hours even if you are VERY sick. Also it is easy to get an off post job if you dont mind working fo minimum wage. On post jobs are very hard to come by, but the Army Community Service people will help you set up your resume so that when there is a job that you qualify for your are all set (be prepaired for disapointment due to the large number of Vets that are in the area and they get preference over spouses it can take over a year to find a CPOL job, NAF is a little easier if you find something that you are qualified for)All in all this base is not a bad place if you have children and enjoy the outdoors....unfortunitly I have no children and am allergic to outside so I am patiently waiting for a move.
