Mrs.

Fort Drum

At first I hated this post. It was our first Army post together. I am from Virginia Beach. I have been here almost four years. I will give a list of the perks first. There are four seasons. It is very beautiful during the spring and fall. There is a great church I attend up here named New Hope Baptist. They have built up new housing on post. I live in a new house and it is nice. If you are into outdoors stuff, this is the place to be. As of now there are not any strip bars lining the road to get to the gates. There are not many bars right outside post. They are building the place up since I moved here. Ok here is the negative stuff about Drum. The weather is first. The snow can fall from October all the way to April. It snowed two years ago on Spring Break. We had two feet. It can get below 0 often. This post is one of the most deployed in the Army. If you stay here more than two years you can expect a deployment every other year depending on what Brigade you are in. There is hardly anything to do as a family that is indoors. The closest "city" is Syracuse and it is 70 miles away. Housing is backed up really bad. The housing in Watertown is really really old and falling apart. You can expect to pay between 250-650 in gas/electric depending on your house. There is a ton of sickness up here. This year 2009 has been the worst they have said in years. After our next deployment I am praying to move!!!
