Aviano, Italy

Aviano AFB, Italy

If you value your marriage, family, and sanity, don't EVER come here. There is no on base housing, so you have no choice but to live in an Italian home. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, what it really means is living in a concrete home with faulty wiring and heating. Also, bills come sparingly, so it is common to be stuck with an 800 dollar bill just for heating. It is rare for this base to have fully stocked shelves at the commissary. You need baby formula? Oh, too bad, the cranky Italian woman who BARELY speaks English will tell you it's your fault for not breastfeeding. The opportunities for travel are wonderful. If you'd like to travel without your active duty spouse. This base has an extremely demanding mission. For the majority of the time, expect 12 hour shifts and no weekends. Not to mention the multitude of deployments and TDYs. You'll never see your husband. If you would like to ever see your family that is stateside, STAY THERE. Tickets to cross the Atlantic run at over 1000 dollars per person. At the cheapest. Consider a commuter marriage before ever coming here.
