This is my first duty station with my husband, we have been here for 6 years about to leave to hawaii in may; so it's all i know, the place has changed alot and it's for the better, our commissary opens till 7pm and 6 on sats and suns, yea the closest town is 45 mins away but could be worse, like alaska, and we do have lots of things to do and see in vegas and LA, which is like 2-3 hours away...most of the people are friendly but like to keep to themselves and that is hard for me, i'm a people person...we have really top ranked schools for our base we have one middle school 4-8 grade and an elementary school k-3, high school is off base, the weather is always great 40-120 in the summer, there is affordable housing off post but barstow is a dump an the schools are crappy, victorville is nicer but like 70-80 miles from post. I'm really going to miss it here! We have central air, I don't think hawaii has that from what i seen on their housing pages...
