We loved Hawaii! K-bay is awesome and is only improving. They just built beautiful new housing for junior enlisted and the senior enlisted is new and nice as well. We had older housing when we were there, but our lanai had an amazing view of Kailua Bay. The commissary was great and the best exchange was over at Pearl Harbor. They just built that exchange and it's the largest exchange in the world right now! Activities for kids and families are endless and there is a lot to do if you love the outdoors. Waikiki has the night life if you're into that and Ala Moana is a great shopping mall. I don't have to tell you about the weather. It's gorgeous and you will have a year round tan! The water and beaches are amazing. Don't be afraid to get out and see the place. Too many military people don't and then wonder why they have nothing to do.
Now on to another island--Parris Island. Not exactly Hawaii! They are tearing down the really old housing we live in now and building really nice housing that we will move into soon. New officer housing is also being built. Housing out in town is affordable and buying a house is feasible even for smaller budgets. Resale value is great right now. The exchange stinks! Nobody really shops there except recruits and families on graduation day. The commissary is average. Beaufort is quiet and can be nice if you walk around in the historic district on a nice day. It's a small town type atmosphere, but if you're longing for more- Hilton Head, Savannah, and Charleston are an hour or less drive away.
