Hi. I am the wife of a Navy Chief currently serving overseas. I live near Camp Pendleton in Southern California. I was outraged over the Fort Hood abomination - how could such a person meet the emotional needs of our active duty military and their families?
I would like to start 2 support groups. One for families, and another, more discrete, for active duty military, because I know they are reluctant to seek help because of fears of damaging their career.
What's the best way to reach like minded people? Thank you for any help you can be.

Try starting at the Red Cross. They can give you helpful info or guide you. Volunteer is a great way to show you care.

Thank you! Not even my own Church knows what to do. We created San Clemente Military Family Outreach, which funds holiday meals and emergency money for military familes, mostly at Camp Pendleton. But, everyone is at a loss as to how to reach active duty and their families to start support groups.

From what I have heard they are offering more counseling for these soldiers and they are making it where they are not ashamed to seek help. Most of the families have since gone home and there are still a few soldiers in the local hospitals. I would just keep praying for everyone .

Try Camp Pendleton's Base Chaplin or the Camp's SgtMajor. Run an article in the Camp's newspaper and ask the editor for some help doing it. It never hurts to introduce yourself as the wife CPO. Good luck in your indivers.
