I am sure it is tight for all this time of year. Am looking for suggestions for Christmas gifts from baby to adults. Any suggestions?

We are getting gifts this year that are "needs" not just wants for our kids (we have seven). The two daughter-in-laws that have kids have asked us to get gifts that are not just "toys" but toys that teach, or learning gifts. I know that doesn't help find the cheapest, but perhaps some ideas. Good luck.

Thanks AF male. We have made the decision to do the same along with giving the older kids money and letting them buy what they want. I am cutting some things out and just making things simple this year. It is about being with family and not getting a ton of gifts or things you don't need. I will still give to a family in need and am now looking for one.

We're getting our kids anything that will get them away from the video games!! I swear I'm so sick of video games I could scream. When family/friends ask what to get the kids for Christmas we tell them ANYTHING BUT VIDEO GAMES! My kids used to spend every spare second outside but it seems like now they have to be dragged outside, I'm at my wits end with the whole thing and some big changes are in the works, lol.

Regarding video games: I agree that my wife and I will NOT buy any video games for any of our seven kids. However, an interesting little side bar: I have one child at Baylor University in Waco Texas and two at Liberty University in Lynchburg Va. I have three that are married. When these kids come home for Thanksgiving or Christmas or something they all seem to go into the den and play guitar hero and visit. They don't have much in common anymore except they all like the games. This has kept them close in a way. So, even though some of my kids are many states apart, it seems that while they play games they visit. I enjoy and appreciate my kids (and four grand kids!!!!).

AF male, on that I also agree. There are a few games that I really don't mind because they are/can be played as a family and anything that brings us together as a family is fine by me. We do like the Wii sports games because not only do we all play together but it gets us up of our rear ends and forces us to get some physical activity. I also don't mind Rock Band because it's something we can do together. It really hit me a few weeks ago though, I suddenly realized that my husband was watching TV in one room, 2 sons were playing a video game in another room, daughter was watching TV in a different room and I was roaming the house cleaning, it just seemed so sad to me that none of us were interacting with each other and somehow that had become the 'norm'. So, this year we're stocking up on family board games, we purchased the kids a full size air hockey/pool table as their main Christmas present..this way we can all play together and none of us are sitting down in front of the idiot box. I've gone back to setting a timer on the video games, once all school work is done, all chores are done etc. then they can play video games for a set time and not one second longer, if they go past the timer then they lose the video games for a week.

I think board games are the best gifts of all! Simple board games that everyone can play. My kids love them and I am looking for some new ones this year to add to the collection we have.

For the adults we are baking cookies and putting them in those pretty tins and handing those out as gifts ! for the kids we are supposed to donate $ 10 per child that we have ... each child will get money put into a piggy bank , and they can either save the money or buy whatever they want.

Books are always good and often you get can them at thrift stores for about 50 cents or less each.
Look at the dollar store as well, I have noticed some now have small plush animals that are great. They also have things like coloring books, crayons, cars, dress up things, and so on.
Board games are good and some stores are offering buy one get one 50% off or even free.
An ornament is always a good option as well, that way their collection grows too so when they are old enough to move out they have them.
For several years my parents bought our kids a seasons pass to the zoo, it was $20 and well worth it. It latest the whole year instead of a little while.
