Getting ready to head to Camp Zama next summer from another base in Japan. Can anyone tell me the info on this base? What are the high school/middle schools like? How is housing?
Thanks!

I pulled this off of www.afcrossroads.com Could not find any thing about schools, but they probably have on base schools.
Families assigned to Camp Zama may reside in one of three housing areas: (1) Sagamihara Housing Area, (2) Camp Zama Housing Area or (3) Sagami-Depot Housing Area. Quarters include high-rise units and one or two level townhouses. The majority of the quarters have wooden floors with the exception of the bathroom and kitchen. Units are heated by steam and cooled by window air conditioners (some newer quarters have central heat and air). There are no cellars or basements; however, each townhouse unit has an outside storage shed.
Assignment to quarters is based on location of an available house, composition of the family and ages and sex of the children. The waiting period fluctuates depending on these variables.
Eligibility
On-base family housing is usually available for all authorized personnel. Government quarters are authorized for military personnel in grades E-1 and above, civilian employees GS-7 and above and American Red Cross personnel of equivalent grade. Individuals who are authorized command sponsorship, but are denied or prefer not to have concurrent travel of family members may live in bachelor quarters until family quarters are available.
Application
In-processing will include preparation of a housing application form (AJ Form 1137). This form should be submitted to the Housing Office within 3 days of arrival.

Are families (dependents) even being allowed to go to these bases such as Camp Zama and Atsugi?

Why not, if they have on base housing. A friend of mine said that they do have schools on base, that was about 4 years ago.

Because of the radiation. I know that families had to leave Atsugi. Camp Zama is about 30 minutes away? I remember going there just cannot remember the distance. Maybe they were not affected and everything is okay?
