BANANANUT BREAD

Recipe: 2 1/2 cups sifted flour 1 2/3 cups sugar, part brown sugar 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2/3 cup shortening 2/3 cup buttermilk 1 1/4 cups mashed bananas 2 eggs, beaten 2/3 cup chopped nuts Mix first 5 ingredients and then add the rest one at a time. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured bread pans. Bake for 35 minutes, at 350 degrees F. Cool on racks. This recipe is great for bananas that are over ripe. To make buttermilk you can use the milk in your refrigerator. Measure 2/3 cup of milk and add 1 Tablespoon of vinegar before you begin mixing all the ingredients together. Then when you are ready to add the buttermilk it will be ready.
