Great Faces, Great Places

Ellsworth AFB, SD

We don't have children but Rapid City, has 2 high schools and 1 high school out by Ellsworth AFB. The base just built new housing area just a few years ago and another area about 10 years ago. There are many things to do all year around, if you just get out and do it. In the summer (hi 90's-100), theres hiking in the Black Hills, Spearfish Canyon (where Dances with Wolfs was filmed), there's a couple of lake for fishing, boating, great area for camping plus there Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, several caves to see. There is a bike pass that goes thru the Black Hills, it's the old railroad, that the National Guard made into a bike pass, plus Rapid City, has a nice bike pass that go thru the town from the east side to the west side, it's about 10 miles long. It follows, Rapid creek,(it flooded Rapid City back in 1972, and the city make that area all into a park). In the winter,(hi 30-40, can get colder but also seen it get into the 80's on Christmas, a couple of times) there's skiing and snow mobiling. Housing is affordable depending on the price you're looking at. The base has a sub-division in Rapid City, there on the east side of town, they are nice units. Copperfield is a sub-division that many military families have bought home in. It's on the east side of Rapid City, about 7 miles from the base. The Civic Center has many top entertainment, with many other things going on all the time. It's a great place to raise a family. If you like motorcyles, you have the Sturgis Rally.
