Negatives (I'll categorize):
1) CRIME:
1a) I can only go running on base. When running on sidewalks off base, I have been followed and harassed (taunts, spitting).
1b) My husband's car ('94 Probe and NOT flashy) has been broken into three times. Damage so bad last time, it was totalled.
1c) 4 burglaries in my neighborhood in the last 3 months including our next door neighbors
1d) There is grafitti everywhere
1e) A Hawaiian lighted fireworks and tossed them under our car while we sat at a red light.
1f) A local man got out of his car, leaned in my husband's car window, and threatened to beat him because he didn't run through a yellow light.
(NOTE: All the incidents above were reported to local police who don't actually take any action...even though in the last case, my husband got the man's tag number and described him to police.)
1g) Many places, and downtown in particular, are not safe at night. For example, a member of president Bush's staff was beaten up in Waikiki on a recent visit.
