Ft. Hood was my husbands first duty station. We moved there from Michigan so the heat was a lot to get used to. I am from a small, friendly town which is the exact opposite of Ft. Hood/ Killeen. I have never met so many rude people ever! We lived off base the whole time. Our first place was a great (but small) appartment, Copper Mountain. Its a great area of Killeen. Then we moved into a appartment off of Rancier Rd. What a bad idea. We did it because the place was bigger and rent was $200 less. Thank God, we weren't home much because its a BAD place to live, gun shots and all! Then we didn't have any kids so we were free to do anything. We went down to Austin ALL the time. There are a million things to do in Austin and its only a 45 minute drive from Killeen. Copperas Cove is good place to live because it has a lot slower pace than Killeen. But they always have bed traffic. We didn't do much on base so I can't comment much on that. Although I had friends who lived on base and the housing was kind of crappy. But when we were PSCing they were building a lot of new, beautiful houses. One cool thing on base that we got to do was met Dr. Phil and Robin. They were at the PX signing Robins new book. Wal-mart is so crazy! You seriously have to go shopping at mid-night if you want to move through the isles freely. I did meet a few good friends from the places I worked. I would go back to Ft. Hood again, but I would do a few things different next time around.
