Fort Stewart has been the worst base I have ever been assigned to. I highly recommend against it. There is nothing in Hinesville and it's dangerous. Driving through a swamp for 45 minutes to get to Savannah is not worth it. The summers are long, hot, humid and miserable.
There is no work hard, play hard mentality in the units. It's more a work hard and then make up some more work so that you look busy. This place is a total joke and doesn't compare to any of the units I was with at Fort Bragg.
The hospital (Winn) is a bit dicey too. I had surgery there and in the Operating Room Holding area, the nurse had to stomp on a cockroach while I was getting my IV put in. And while my wife was in the waiting area, you guessed, she also had to kill a cockroach that came running by.
This is the base that God and civilization forgot. Avoid at all costs.
