FT.HOOD,TX

My family and I have been at Fort Hood for over 7 years now.This was my Husbands first and only duty station so far.I have heard some pretty bad reviews about this place,but they all pretty much have one thing in common.The people who hate it here live in downtown Killeen.If I lived off of Rancier I would probably hate it to.Yes it is a bad area.However the rest of killeen is ok.I can not say I regret living here because I have met quite a few life long friends.I must tell you the deployment and training rotations here are crazy so be prepared.The way to get through it is to be involved.Don't shut yourself in.My neighbors and I have BBQ's almost every weekend.We sit out and let the kids hang out riding bikes in the cul de sac all day.I live in on post housing and I don't love it but I don't hate it either.Some villages are worse than others.The new housing just built is nice though.I can say I am ready to move on but it is not because Fort Hood is so awful it is because I want to experience other places the army has to offer.I would not be upset if we get stationed back here in the future though.It's all about your attitude.So think positve and make friends and it will be ok.
