Fort Riley Kansas

The surrounding area of this base is wonderful and there are many things to do here for single soldiers and for married ones but don\'t let that fool you. Fort Riley is the WORST base that my husband has ever been too. This base made him HATE being in the Army which is something he has wanted to do since he was 10. They work you like dogs and make you stay on post until 8 at night just because they want something done. They constantly call you in for stupid things and its hard to stay positive in a place like this! They don\'t care about their soldiers here or their family members. The best places to live here would have to be rented housing in junction city or apartments in manhattan. The homes on post are very old and only a lucky few get the newer housing. We chose to live off base because I felt like I was taken back to the 80\'s and not in a good way! If you live in Junction City you will have to drive to Manhattan for the mall and attractions. Junction City is not a nice city and has MANY ghetto areas. The people are extremely friendly in Manhattan (this is where we chose to live) the job market was great and there were water parks, zoos, and parks to go to. The housing here is affordable but make sure you take a drive around if you get stuck at this awful base because most of the good places aren\'t posted online. Good luck to everyone and our soldiers!
