Barksdale isn't THAT bad...

Barksdale AFB

Living on base you have 4 potential different style housing to live on base. On the main base housing there are two different style housing, one is Historic, and the other is like the old housing with linoleum floor. The garages are not attached. Main base is close to the commissary. Liberty Heights and Heritage Heights are over on the East side and from the East gate it\'s about a 15 minute drive. Liberty Heights is new housing (a couple years old now) that have garages but little yard space. Unless you get lucky and get a house that doesn\'t have another street behind it. The pool built by housing is located here. Over on the other side is the SNCO and Officer housing, it\'s a little bigger, nicer, compared to Liberty Heights, and then you have Heritage Heights, they have more back yard but housing style is similar to on main base with the older housing with the linoleum flooring. They recently opened a gate by this housing which makes it easier to head into Bossier City, but it\'s only open during certain hours. So if you work or needed to go somewhere at a certain time, it might not be open. The BAH rates here are actually pretty good considering its Louisiana. So living off base isn\'t a bad option either. I don\'t have school age children, so I can\'t say how well the school ratings were, but that\'s always easy to find out with greatschools.org As far as things to do around here, for kids it\'s not bad. There is a place called the Sci-Port, parks with splash pads during the summer, and a few indoor places like Kid City. The casinos around make it fun for nightlife for those who are maybe kid free. Dallas is 3 hours away. All in all, it\'s not a bad place, the drive thru daiquiris can make everything a little better too.
