Whiteman AFB

Whiteman is a small base and very well maintained..it's all hills and trees, very green and verdant. The BX is pretty pathetic but then again you have Warrensburg about 15 mins away (has a Walmart) and Sedalia the opposite direction about 20 minutes away (is a college town) so I guess it would be silly to have a well stocked BX with a lot of selection anyway. The Commissary is relatively small but carried most things you 'need'..I know a lot of people hit the Walmart supercentre for their groceries. Whiteman is also a very very busy base as it does have the B-2 Bombers here, a lot of deployments going out of here and a lot of exercises. The newer housing is fantastic..very quaint looking but unfortunately we are in one of the older unites (built in the 60's) and renovations have been very few and far between...barely any electrical outlets to speak of (talk about investing in some major extention cords and surge protectors!!), the cabinets in the kitchen are horrible, dated and dreary and there's very little of them..we had to go out and purchase some ourselves just so we would have a place to put our kitchen items. But...the back yards are huge and will be great this winter for sledding! They are currently at work on building new homes, we've seen the plans and they look fantastic (unlike any base-housing I've seen before) we're pretty high up on the list for those so hopefully we will be in one this time next year! All in all it's a nice base, very family oriented and the elementary is superb!
