Well, first I would like to point out the good things, because if you are a person who is thinking about moving here, i dont want to scare you too much and there is always something good i think so here are the good points: we have a new XO, and he is doing wonderful things. He actually cares about turning this base around. There is a set of new housing(but you have to wait about 6mos. for it). You are only about 20mins. away from the Keesler Air Force Base, which is really nice, well compared to this one.
Now for the bad points: We have two gates, and both of them lead to a slummy area, which the kids have to attend school at. Speaking of kids, there are some of the worst behaved children I have ever seen here. They tamper with cars, dont wear helmets when riding bikes, curse, etc. And some of this has to do with the parents, yes, but also security, security here is very limited, so the civilian police has to come in and you know they dont care at all. Basically I dont feel safe here. I think its pretty sad, because I just came from Yokosuka, Japan (loved it!) and I felt so safe there, and guess what, I lived OFF BASE! To me that really says that something needs to be done. I was telling you before about the new housing, well we got stuck in the old housing. It is aweful. Everything is falling apart, the roof leaks, etc. Is this how people serving our country are supposed to live? I think not. Well that is my 2 cents for today.
