We pcs'd from Ft. Cambell in May of 2007. We LOVED it there. WE plan on going back to retire. We were there for almost 7 years. T was our 1st duty station. The base is 1/2 in Hopkinsville, KY & 1/2 in Clarksville, TN. We lived off post. First had a brand new cute 1bd/1bth apt. for about $800mo. Then we were able to buy a house bd/2bth, great neighborhood for $80K.
The people there are great! Everyone is SO friendly!! There's military discounts & appreciation everyhere! The local mall is a bit small but has everything. plus, there's like 4 SuperWAlmarts within 1/2 hour of eachother. Everything is open 24/7 so that's convienient. Right off post is a little ghetto. Lots of bars & pawn shops. Just don't go late at night LOL
A couple other little ghetto areas. But, overall very nice. Esp anything after exit 4. on post hopitol is OK. Crowded. Hard to get appts. and you never see the same doc twice. A really nice commissary & the X is huge!! they just re-did.
O post housing is OK depending on the nighborhood. They jsut built a bunch of nice new townhouses near gate 10.
All of the schools are good. Nashville is less than an hour for shopping, large malls, airport, etc.
the weather is good. A great spring & fall. Winters are cold but not a ton of snow. Summer's can get warm & humid but you get used to it.
Overall great place to be =)
