We've been here just over a year. This is the kind of place that everyone seems to dread--not much to do. However, if you are the type of person that likes to take day drives, this is the place for you. Sure, there's not much to do locally, but there are lots of things you can do in a day. The community is pretty nice, too. Everyone seems to mind their own business, but when you need them, they are there. We are all friendly, just very family oriented. This is a great place for backyard barbecues. (No matter what the weather--just ask my husband!) So, if you here that Fort Polk is better known as Fort Puke, don't dread it, keep an open-mind. The people here are pretty nice and the base isn't really that bad. Just be prepared for lots of hot weather---and lately, a lot of rain! :) Swimming pool is open year round!! (They put a bubble over it during the winter months).
