AF Wife

Davis Monthan AFB

As a previous military brat, active duty soldier, and now a spouse, I have seen quite a few Forts and Bases. Davis Monthan is by far the worse. The base is underconstruction with a new Super BX. The new pool is done. It is nice but more expensive. There is a new CDC but they keep hiking up the prices because it is self sufficient. The citizens of Tucson want to get rid of DM because of the Airplane graveyard. They fear attacks, which is just ignorant. DM employs over 9,000 civilians and gives millions per year off base. $300,000 of which goes to charities. Regardless, the best way to survive in Tucson is to keep your affiliation to DM a secret. Tucson itself has one of the highest crime rates so it is best to live on base. Base housing is under construction as well. I live in the old 1978 housing. The new housing looks nice but I have heard that people living there has a lot of problems as far as room size and other factors go. All in all, I keep myself busy to bide my time till we leave. I think the best thing about DM is that you get to have civilian doctors for many things such as OB.
